Graffiti is More Than Criminal Activity, It is Art and Expression

As a graffiti artist, I believe that graffiti gets a bad rap as being a gang-related or destructive to private property. Graffiti is a way of life for most that practice it – it’s now manifested as all kinds of things – from canvas art prints to museum pieces too; it is more than just some punk kids attempting to ruin society. Graffiti is a form of expression. A graffiti artist is expressing themselves openly to everyone that sees their work. If more people would take the time to observe and cherish it instead of looking at it, they may feel the same way. If people were to take a step back and pay attention to the vibrant colors, the curves of the letters and alignment of the key points, they too may accept graffiti. Furthermore, caricatures may provide a glimpse of how the artist feels about their life at the moment. More mainstream artists such as “Obey” or “Daim” are widely accepted by society as bona fide artists, not as destructive hooligans. Why shouldn’t the average street artist be accepted in the same respect?
